Table lamps are as much a beautiful interior detail as a necessity in everyday life. Light creates comfort and can contribute to a cozy and inviting atmosphere, but light also serves an important function in the home, especially during the dark seasons.

A table lamp for every room…

In our collection, you will find large, grand table lamps as well as slimmer models that are suitable, for example, on a windowsill. With a slightly taller table lamp in the window, the light falls beautifully on plants and other decorations on the windowsill.

You can also use a table lamp on the bedside table as a bedside lamp. Perhaps a soft, gentle glow is enough, but if you enjoy reading in bed, you may prefer a table lamp with adjustable light. Adjust the size of the lamp according to the measurements of the bedside table.

A table lamp can also work well as a desk lamp on the worktable. Here too, you can choose a lamp with adjustable light. If you have the lampshade at approximately eye level, you usually get good light on the work surface while avoiding being blinded.

Since table lamps are relatively small, they are easy to move. If a corner feels dark or a little flat, you can try adding a lamp, it can make all the difference!

Many different styles and materials

In our collection, you will find table lamps in many different styles, colors, and materials. We have lamp bases in wood, ceramic, and brass, as well as in raw metals such as aluminum, steel, or iron with a rusty look. Some models exude classic elegance, while others have a more modern and perhaps bolder design language. Here you will find lamps for every room and personality.

Many of Artwood’s table lamps are sold with the lamp base and lampshade separately. This way, you can combine the base and shade according to your own taste and preference. Here you will find stylish lampshades that fit our table lamps and floor lamps.

3 types of lighting

The type of lighting you need in each room and the number of lamps you should have depend entirely on your habits. How do you use the different rooms? What activities take place in each? Let that guide you when choosing lighting. Generally, all rooms need a combination of several different types of light, which also creates a nice dynamic in the room.

  • General lighting – this includes ceiling lamps that spread light throughout the room and provide good overall illumination, for example, during cleaning
  • Ambient lighting – this can be table lamps, floor lamps, and wall lamps, but also candle holders and lanterns for tea lights, for example. They are often placed lower and provide soft light and a cozy atmosphere in the room.
  • Task lighting – needed, for example, above the kitchen counter, by the mirror in the bathroom, and by the armchair, workspace, or perhaps the bed where you often read. These lamps illuminate a specific area with concentrated, directional light.

So, how many lamps are needed in a room?

Many of us actually have too few lamps at home. For example, a living room usually benefits from having 6-10 light sources. A ceiling lamp for general lighting, but perhaps also a pendant lamp above the coffee table or dining table. Supplement with table lamps, floor lamps, and perhaps even picture lighting and lamps on the windowsill. With various types of table lamps, you can highlight details and create small “rooms within the room.”

The darker the room, the more light sources are usually needed. Also, consider that furniture, rugs, paintings, bookshelves, and curtains can “absorb” a lot of light and make the room require more light sources than if the decor had been more minimalistic.

5 tips for cozy lighting at home

Table lamps are a great way to create a cozy atmosphere in the room, but there are also a few tricks you can keep in mind to achieve especially good mood lighting.

Warm light – the color temperature of a light source is measured in Kelvin, often abbreviated as K. Light sources with low Kelvin have a warm white glow that is perfect for mood lighting. For example, candlelight is around 1500K as a comparison, and warm white light sources usually range from 2200-3300K. Light sources with higher Kelvin than that produce a cooler white light that is suitable, for example, above the kitchen counter.

Dimmer – with a dimmer, you can adjust the brightness according to your needs, and it’s another great trick for creating atmospheric lighting. Even a ceiling lamp can provide cozy lighting if you dim the light significantly.
Diffuse light – for cozy lighting, diffuse light is usually the best choice. If you want to brighten up a dark corner or simply spread some general ambient lighting, choose indirect, diffuse light that spreads around the entire lamp in a soft manner.

String lights – many of us have realized that string lights are delightful all year round. They often provide a soft, cozy light and can be used, for example, along a staircase railing, above the bed, or to frame a window or doorway.

Candles – lamps are great, but if you want to create a lovely atmosphere, we also recommend using candles. Feel free to mix lower candle holders and taller candlesticks and don’t be afraid to combine different styles and materials in beautiful arrangements. Note: Never leave candles unattended. Blow out the candles when you leave the room.

More ways to create ambiance in the home

In addition to lighting, you can consider adding textiles. Beautiful curtains, cushions, blankets, and rugs give the room a softer, warmer feeling. Personal details such as books, photographs, small mementos, and art also contribute to making the home feel cozy and inviting.
